The Fall Into Decadence - Once again reverting to the movie 300 , the film portrays Xerxes (son of Darius) as a decadent fool with a god complex who invaded Greece on almost a whim. Now historically, the opposite of this scenario was quite true The Achaemenid Empire (/ ə ˈ k iː m ə n ɪ d /; Old Persian: , romanized: Xšāça, lit. 'The Empire'), also called the First Persian Empire, was an ancient Iranian empire that was based in Western Asia and founded by Cyrus the Great in 550 BC. After eventually quashing it, Darius's fleet sailed to punish Athens for backing the rebels, only to encounter a surprise defeat. If the Persian administrative machine were not to look dangerously weak, the Greeks would.

There were around 10 or 15 tribes in Persia, of which one was the Pasargadae. The leader of the Pasargadae always came from the Achaemenid clan, and, in 559 BCE, a new leader was chosen: Cyrus II ('the Great'). Monument that is generally believed to be the tomb of Cyrus the Great in Pasargadae, the oldest base-isolated structure in the world Rolled up a new Loremaster to try this out, it was a very fun exploration quest. However, it did reinforce for me something I had though before: considering how big of a feat it is to get to the bottom of the Abyss, it would be nice if one could freely explore the room there in a similar way as this quest and manually look around and interact with the panels The Achaemenid Persian empire was the largest that the ancient world had seen, extending from Anatolia and Egypt across western Asia to northern India and Central Asia. Probably the greatest of the Achaemenian rulers were Cyrus II, who actually established the empire and from whose reign it is dated; and Darius I, who excelled as an administrator and secured the borders from external threats

In 465 b.c.e. Xerxes was assassinated in his bedchamber by several of his court favorites. He was buried in a rock-cut tomb excavated in a cliff to the east of his father's tomb. Xerxes' oldest son Darius was next in line for succession, but a younger son, Artaxerxes I, had Darius slain and took the throne for himself According to Herodotus (III.139), Darius, prior to seizing power and of no consequence at the time, had served as a spearman ( doryphoros) in the Egyptian campaign (528-525 BCE) of Cambyses II, then the Persian Great King; this is often interpreted to mean he was the king's personal spear-carrier, an important role The conventional dating for it is 559 to 330 BCE, that is from the founding of the empire under Cyrus the Great, coming out of central Iran and quickly establishing a foothold in modern-day Turkey and across the Middle East. And it runs then until the reign of Darius III, who was defeated by Alexander of Macedon The interconnected story aspect of this game is the single best part of it. The campaign isn't actually that long, and you'll still get a satisfying story playing a single plot, but you get the whole story by playing everyone. There's stuff in the Praetor plotline that seemed really random until I played the Thief, or when I saw the Merch playthrough in Teron here in the LP I'd just finished.
